Where did you hear that thay were being installed at the Hard Rock? I have just read the article several times, and do not see any mention of the Hard Rock.
Furthermore, this is not the same as Mindplay. The article states:
"This card reader which is currently in the prototype phase is designed to recognize each card as it is played allowing casinos to analyze play patterns and detect cheats." (Emphasis mine.)
So, it would appear that this system does not know the order of the cards before they are dealt. Thus, it is not all that different from the various computer evaluation systems now commonly in use, except that a surveillance person does not have to manually input the cards into the program.
Note that Mikohn had developed a system a decade ago called "SafeJack" that did essentially the same thing as Mindplay. Casinos showed no interest, and the product was subsequently dropped.

You did you read this...
IBR card recognition shoe in accordance with these patents.
This card reader which is currently in the prototype phase is designed to recognize each card as it is played allowing casinos to analyze play patterns and detect cheats.
Considering that casinos believe that cheats and card counters are one and the same...
This is a good thing?
cheers
