This is a quick reflection on the beginning of the movie "21". Ben Sturgis' character is roughly quoted as saying "It takes a gifted mind. I have a gifted mind."
Most APs discount this quote saying that anyone can count cards, that we can teach a monkey how to do it. I'm here to say I actually agree with this movie quote. Sure, learning to count is easy, but making money at it is what separates gifted from non-gifted minds.
Most beginning APs bust out and quit. It takes a gifted mind to have the discipline to build a bankroll, scout a casino and not play a single hand, and have the stomach to lose hand after hand after hand. It takes a gifted mind to study and memorize multiple basic strategy charts and lots of meticulous index plays. It takes a gifted mind to accurately estimate how many cards are in a stack, divide by fractions in their head, and put out the right amount of money in the circle with zero emotion to it.
You get the idea. I say congratulations to the good people on this forum with gifted minds. Now let's go out there and play some cards.
